O prêmio que celebra a diversidade racial em diversos campos culturais, como cinema, televisão, literatura e música, anunciou sua lista de indicados de 2019. O grande fenômeno do ano ado, Pantera Negra, lidera com o maior número de nomeações entre os longa-metragens e com duas menções especiais no prêmio especial da noite - o de Personalidade do Ano - para o ator Chadwick Boseman e o diretor Ryan Coogler, ambos concorrendo com a rainha da música pop, Beyoncé.
Já nas categorias de televisão, a Netflix e a HBO atingiram o maior número de indicações, com destaque para Seven Seconds - do serviço de streaming -, e Insecure e Fahrenheit 451 para o canal de TV. Vale notar que, apesar da maioria dos nomeados serem negros (grupo étnico que fundou o NAA), a organização também comemora outras minorias étnicas, tendo em vista que Podres de Ricos - com elenco asiático - angariou diversas indicações.
